Biscoito da Teixeira / "Teixeira's biscuit"

In the Douro region, in any show or pilgrimage there is this one traditional sweet from Baião. The Biscoito da Teixeira (Teixeira’s biscuit) has a rectangular shape, a dark color and strong flavor. 
This candy is sold in "folhetas" ("small leaf"). The original recipe is very old but one of the secrets is to be baked in wood ovens. This delicacy is always present on feast days, but throughout the year it can be found in the Douro markets.

In the south of the Douro River, lies the city of Lamego. Bolas de Lamego (Lamego’s balls) are one of the traditional delicacies, characterized by its soft mass and diversity of fillings, such as ham, cod, chicken, mixed meat with wine, garlic and sardines. 

The revenue of these balls is already old and to keep the tradition, the town began performing shows of Bolas de Lamego ("Lamego’s balls"). The objective is to promote and raise the awareness of this product.

Gastronomy: "Papa Figos"


"Papa Figos" is part of the portfolio of Casa Ferreirinha. The name is inspired by a bird that can be seen in the upper Douro.

Origins of Port Wine


The first demarcated wine region in Portugal was the Douro's region.

During the reign of D. Did you know that the Douro has several traditional dances? "Chula", "Malhão" and "Vira" are some types of traditional dance in this region. 
The "Chula" is one of the most distinctive and theatrical. Currently, this dance is practiced by ranches - groups that use old clothes and dance traditional songs, sung live. The "Malhão" is very similar to "Chula". 
"Vira" is danced in various regions differently. In the Minho region it is similar to the "Chula" but in Régua, "Vira" and "Chula" are the same dance.

Régua's candy (Rebuçados da Régua) is one of the characteristic products of the city. They have already over 300 years and they are made mostly of sugar. The caramel is worked in marble stones still hot to make them round. All work is done manually. 
When tourists come to the Régua, whether by boat or by train, the candy sellers ("rebuçadeiras") are already waiting and start immediately proclaim "Look, candy of Régua, take this candy of Régua". The candy sellers ("rebuçadeiras") sell this product every day, from sunrise to sunset, welcoming all who pass by this beautiful city.

Gastronomy: Sovina Bock

Curiosities: Soaps made of beer?

After the handmade beers, Sovina decided to enter the world of hygiene. So they decided to create two soaps.
