Did you know that Walnut is one of the dried fruit produced by Portugal? Although Portugal import 95% of nut consumption in the autumn, it begins to be marketed to domestic production. In the Douro, this fruit is also present, albeit sparse. This product is often used in cuisine.

Did you know that the 4th “show” of Cherry Penajóia takes place this week-end? This village is located north of Lamego and produces a higher quality of fruits in the region. The cherry Penajóia is widely used for making liqueurs and jams.

Did you know there's Museum of Douro? The headquarters of the Museum of Douro is located in the city of Régua and was opened on December 20, 2008. This museum promotes cultural permanent and temporary exhibitions. Moreover, even has a restaurant, which serves products from Douro, and a library of documents about Douro.

Did you know that the line of iron railway of Douro started being built in 1875? The line with 200 kilometers of fencing was completed only in 1887 and it linked Barca D'Alva to Ermesinde. Today, the line of Douro connects São Bento (Porto) to Pocinho.

Did you know that the Douro has several traditional dances? "Chula", "Malhão" and "Vira" are some types of traditional dance in this region. 
The "Chula" is one of the most distinctive and theatrical. Currently, this dance is practiced by ranches - groups that use old clothes and dance traditional songs, sung live. The "Malhão" is very similar to "Chula". 
"Vira" is danced in various regions differently. In the Minho region it is similar to the "Chula" but in Régua, "Vira" and "Chula" are the same dance.

Did you know that Douro river is one of the largest in Portugal? Douro River rises in Spain, 2080 meters above the sea level and is one of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula. It crosses the North of Portugal and flows at the mouth of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. 
Previously, it was across the river that various products were carried, such as wine. Today, the boats moving on the river are dedicated to tourism.
