According to the elders of the Village of Murça (bathed in
Douro) once upon a time, there was a bear that wandered that area, looking for
food. However, it is said that this animal was in such a violent manner that
came to attack people and even children.

In an act of courage, the courageous men of the village
gathered to face the beast once and for all. In this struggle, many people
ended up injured but the bear was defeated and killed. Achieved the triumph, a
statue was built to the bear, which was eventually known as the Porca de Murça.
This statue is still in the village to be visited.
Segundo a
população mais antiga da Vila de Murça (banhada pelo Douro) que, em tempos
passados existiu uma ursa que vagueava aquela zona, à procura de comida.
Todavia, reza a lenda que este animal era de tal maneira violenta que chegava a
atacar pessoas e mesmo crianças.

Num ato de
coragem, aos homens mais capazes da aldeia reuniram-se para enfrentar o animal
de uma vez por todas. Nesta luta, muitas pessoas acabaram feridas mas a ursa
acabou derrotada e morta. Alcançado o triunfo, foi erguida uma estátua à ursa,
que acabou por ser conhecida como a Porca de Murça. Esta estátua ainda se encontra
na vila para ser visitada.
