According to the elders of the Village of Murça (bathed in
Douro) once upon a time, there was a bear that wandered that area, looking for
food. However, it is said that this animal was in such a violent manner that
came to attack people and even children.

In an act of courage, the courageous men of the village
gathered to face the beast once and for all. In this struggle, many people
ended up injured but the bear was defeated and killed. Achieved the triumph, a
statue was built to the bear, which was eventually known as the Porca de Murça.
This statue is still in the village to be visited.
